🟢 Last Week in Node.js

Node.js 26 Is Getting Ready for LTS

October is an important month for the Node.js release cycle.

Node.js 26, currently the Current release line, is scheduled to move into Active LTS on October 28, while Node.js 24 (Krypton) will transition from Active LTS to Maintenance LTS on October 20.

That means the supported release landscape will soon look like:

  • Node.js 26 → Active LTS
  • Node.js 24 (Krypton) → Maintenance LTS
  • Node.js 22 (Jod) → Maintenance LTS

The latest Node.js 26 release remains v26.10.0, which introduced updates across crypto, filesystem APIs, networking, performance hooks, and FFI.

For teams planning runtime upgrades, October is a good time to start testing workloads against Node.js 26 ahead of its LTS transition.

N|Solid Runtime 6.3.8 Is Now Available

Last week, we released N|Solid Runtime 6.3.8, with support for:

  • Node.js 22.23.3 (Jod)
  • Node.js 24.21.0 (Krypton)

Packages, Docker images, and Homebrew builds are now available.

⚠️ Node.js 20 Support Is Disappearing Across the Ecosystem

Node.js 20 reached End-of-Life earlier this year, and the ecosystem is now moving on.

GitHub Actions has removed Node.js 20 from its runners, moving JavaScript Actions to Node.js 24. Vercel has also disabled Node.js 20 for new Builds and Functions starting October 1.

For teams still relying on Node.js 20, this goes beyond changing the version in package.json. CI/CD workflows, JavaScript Actions, dependencies, native addons, deployment configurations, and production workloads may all need to be reviewed.

Our latest article breaks down what changed, who is affected, and what developers should check before upgrading.

🖥️ GitHub Copilot Can Now Interact With Desktop Apps

GitHub expanded Copilot’s agentic capabilities with computer use, allowing Copilot to interact with desktop applications as part of its workflow.

This moves coding agents beyond the editor and terminal, giving them the ability to work across applications when completing development tasks.

🔍 GitHub Introduces ReviewBench for AI Code Review

GitHub introduced ReviewBench, an open benchmark designed specifically to evaluate AI code review agents using representative pull requests and production-aligned metrics.

As AI agents take on more code review work, the project aims to provide a more realistic way to measure whether they can identify issues that actually matter in real-world development.
